Waiting for the deployment of the PNC, I am pushing my colleagues to
come networking and liasing with other organi-sations and projects on the ground in Bunia to exchange project experiences. This week we went to see IOM who'is here to build a training centre for the PNC boarder police. The centre will have room for training 75 persons at the time, a computer hall with 25 desktops, a Townhall (to use DPKO mission language) two dorms, and a health post.
Their plan is to train 600 boarder police, that will later be deployed to a number of police posts also being built. After that, the centre will be handed over to the PNC to use at will - hopefully to continue training programmes.
Sponsored by the USA, the coordinator of the project is Italian, Dino. He will probably soon regret giving me an open invitation to his office/home by saying it will be my second home in Bunia...
Dino proudly showed us around the building site saying that I could take as many pictures as I want. Little did he know they would end up on the Internet - maybe I should have told him. There was one thing though that he didn't want me to take a picture of, the newly finished toilets. The slightly embarrassing detail was that the locks were on the outside. Apart from that, the centre is built to a perfection I did not expect to find in Bunia.
